Junkviber Jazzfunk Liveband

Biografie

>>> Welcome <<<

Our official website in currently under construction, so in the meantime we welcome you to our Jazz.nl profile.

The live jazz and fusion music scene in Amsterdam was once exiting
and diversatile, but all the wrong people, for all the wrong reasons, turned it into a dulled out and uninspired drag.

But then there was Junkviber!

This vivid and diverse group of musicians of all ages,
origins and musical backgrounds were brought together
to give music back it’s true meaning. Ambient, feeling
and inspiration, brought to you through spirited,
uncluttered and untouched music from the haert.

We’ve got the funk
We’ve got the jazz
We’ve got the vibe
That only Junkviber has!

>>> Biography <<<

Junkviber started out in early '06 when pioneer Sebastian de Meijere, after having lived a diverse and open jazz/fusion scene and, although only a beginner at the time, having been granted the opportunity to play on stage alongside great local musicians such as Adrian DeLongo, Pieter Engels and The Pheasant Pluckers, saw the live scene that he loved so much deteriarate into a scholar and sturdy place of musical xenophobia. Unfortunately, Seb's musical ambition lied in jazzfunk, a more contemporary, uncluttered musical style, inspired by groove bands from the '60s and '70s, with great influences of jazz, which at the time was gaining popularity throughout the world trough bands like Soulive, who would form the main source of inspiration for the band later. But in Amsterdam there wasn't much room for that and forming a jazzfunk formation would proof quite the task. Then one day Seb meets Floris Lamers, an extremely talented young piano-player, who shared the seemingly rare taste for the contemporary sound. Along with bassplayer and mutual friend Louis Ates, and drummer Ruben Perez, who had just arrived from Barcelona one year before after having played in a succesfull local latin band, got together and thus Junkviber was formed.

In the months to follow they worked on their repertoire and rehearsed, along with singer and songwriter Dursun Erbay, also known as D.Co, who joined shortly after the band started, and his friend Paul Wood who would replace Louis on bass, who in turn would later be replaced by Brazilian bass virtuoso Emmanuel Miranda, whom, after about half a year they did their first gig with. For a while Junkviber played on stage in several venues throughout Amsterdam, but unfortunately stopped for a while due to differences of opinion within the band. Emmanuel went to play with D.Co's, but around the rest of the band it was awefully quiet. Until in october '07 Seb, Floris and Ruben got together again to give Junkviber another go!

This time they'd be joined by percussionist Christian Klumm, who had previously played in Mr. Long En Zijn Funky Rijstplantage, vivid trumpetplayer Roel Nentjes, whom with Seb had played in another band once, lively singer Sarina, who'd sang with rock band Catharsis, music veteran Franky Carducci and tenor sax player Taco Hoekstra. Now, with their own music lab at hand, a complete horn section, a more complemented rhythm section, a new singer, an array of new songs and a more distinctive and somewhat rawer sound, Junkviber is once again ready to groove the world and stimulate inspiration with all new contemporary jazz and funk. Come to a live show and just try to sit still...

>>> Drummer Wanted! <<<

Our drummer Ruben will be moving abroad in a few months and we think it's best to get a new drummer as soon as we can. Are you, or do you know of, a good experienced, reliable, available, crazy drummer? Then come and jam with us sometime to see if there's a connction. We rehearse every monday, so that's a good opportunity for all potential Junkviber-drummers to come and show their skills. We play own material only and have a fully equipped rehearsal room of our own. Hope to see you soon.
