Biografie

Klaas van Donkersgoed:
I started playing the drums when I was four years old. Fortunately some great teachers crossed my path and inspired me with their music (John Riley, Marcel Serierse, Gerhard Jeltes and Peter Berk and Victor Oskam, among others) During my Masters at the Amsterdam Conservatory I got the opportunity to study at the Manhattan School of Music in New York for a period of 5 months. That has been a great experience for me. Besides playing the drums I composed a lot of music using a 16 track midi sequencer.

I was fortunate to play with many great artists. One of the first working bands was the Ghorar Deem Express. Later I joined the Susanne Alt Quartet. We had a great time playing on beautiful places like the North Sea Jazz Festival as well as little bars like Cafe Alto. In that period I did a lot of session work as well.

Now I focus on my own band, the Headliners. This band sounds playful, funky, nostalgic and with lots of energy. Our goal is to switch between a diversity of styles with an accent on jazzfunk. Music, vocals and lyrics should support and reinforce each other. Besides that I compose/produce and play with Sonar 11 and the Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra.
